THE HILLEBERG LABEL SYSTEM divides tents in one of four categories, or “Labels,” Black, Red, Yellow, or Blue, each representing a performance range based on materials, construction or both. This grouping makes it straightforward to see the differences within our line, and so makes selecting the right Hilleberg tent for you much easier.

Black and Red label design

Every Black Label tent is perfect for pleasant trips in fine weather, where comfort is paramount and it is equally well-suited to adventures in the most challenging terrain, and the most demanding weather, in any season.
Red Label tents are ideal for trips in any season where lighter weight is the priority and are quite capable of standing up to challenging terrain and conditions.

Yellow label design

Yellow Label tents offer the consummate warm weather, lightweight, backcountry shelter solution… …and users willing to give up comfort for super light weight will find their inherent strength equal to surprisingly tough challenges.

Kerlon 1000, 1200 or 1800?

Understand and compare Hilleberg fabrics:

Solid, is better!

The tear strength of the fabric is the best and unique indicator for both the durability and life expectancy of a tent.

The importance of the tear strength:

With a low tear strength outer tent fabric, even slight damage make it susceptible to tearing. Combined with strong winds or rough handling, this can lead to the destruction of the tent. In addition, exposure to the sun's UV rays weakens all tissues, high resistance to tearing is therefore crucial. UV rays can reduce over 50% of the original strength after only a few years of use.

Hilleberg has developed its unique fabrics, Kerlon, specifically to ensure outstanding and lasting resistance. They are coated on both sides with a total of three coat of 100% silicone.

Consequently, their ratio strength/weight is unmatched in the industry and defines not only the highest available standard of tear strength, but also the impermeability and resistance to UV. For a similar weight, the Kerlon fabrics are simply stronger than the majority of fabrics used on tents.

Kerlon 1800:

Kerlon 1800 weighs only 60 g / m² and has a tear strength of 18 kg. It's the perfect balance between superior strength and light weight for a 4-season use. This is a major reason that the Hilleberg tents are chosen by the most demanding users. It has better UV resistance and abrasion that Kerlon 1200.

Here, your selection criterion is the resistance.

Kerlon 1200:

With 50g / m², the Kerlon 1200 is in the range 4 seasons, more light and resistant. Furthermore his outstanding tear strength of 12 kg makes it more solid than most fabrics called "resistant" or "expedition grade". This is the choice for those looking for the lightweight but that will resist to difficult conditions.

Here, your selection criterion is the weight.

Kerlon 1000:

Kerlon 1000 is used on the range 3 seasons. It has a remarkable tear strength of 10 kg for a minimum weight of 40 g / m².

Here, your selection criterion is the light weight.

Kerlon SP:

While the Kerlon 1000, 1200 and 1800 are nylon, Kerlon SP is made from a slightly heavier but remarkably durable polyester. It is also coated on both sides with a total of three coat of 100% silicone and a minimum tear strength of 15 kg. Kerlon SP is used on Atlas but also on the Altai XP or XP on Tarps.
